Many people will find themselves in the situation of comparing the Nook Color vs Kindle 3 this holiday season and beyond, because these two ebook readers are the most prominent on the market. Barnes and Noble's new device has rocked the electronics world, and the Kindle 3 is a solid new product from Amazon. But which is the better device?

The new Nook Color boasts an IPS color touch screen that is the same technology found in Apple's iPad. You can see the screen from 178 degrees of view. The screen is anti-glare and very high resolution. The screen size is 7 inches, which is 1 inch larger than the original Nook E-Ink screen, and the Kindle 3.

Why Color? Some people may be asking themselves, why do you need color on an ebook reader? Well, for those people who like to read a lot of publications like daily newspapers and magazines, then the Nook Color could make a lot of sense. You can scroll through color pages and zoom in and out with the multi-touch feature.

Tech Specs- The memory capacity of the Nook Color is 8GB standard, and memory is expandable by adding SD cards. Try that with an iPad! The size is slightly bigger and heavier than the original Nook, and battery life is dramatically reduced because of the robust technology. You'll get only 8 hours on one charge. That's the price to pay for a color touch screen. There is only a wireless version available.

Kid's Books- Barnes and Noble is also banking on the fact that many parents will like the children's books that are now available at B and N that work on the Nook Color. These are interactive to the touch. It will be seen if this revolutionizes the children's book market or not.

All-In-One device- The Nook Color will allow you to surf the web, read color publications, read ebooks, check your email, watch movies, listen to music, and play a select few games.

The New Kindle 3 comes boasts some new features of it's own. The E-Ink screen contrast has been improved compared to the 2nd generation Kindle.

Why E-Ink Screen? Amazon claims that an E-Ink screen reduces eye strain compared to back lit devices like the Nook Color and lap top computers. Battery life is increased dramatically as well because of the lesser power draining technology. The reading screen measure 6 inches diagonally, the same size as previous versions of the Kindle.

Tech Specs- The memory capacity of the Kindle 3 is at 3,500 books. It is smaller than the previous Kindle version, and much smaller and lighter than the Nook Color, at 8.5 ounces vs 15.8 ounces. Battery life is 30 days with the wireless turned off, considerably longer than the Nook Color's 8 hours with wireless turned off. Kindle 3 offers a wireless version as well as a 3G.

An Ebook Reader...and Only an Ebook Reader- Amazon's aim with the Kindle 3 was to create a device 100% dedicated to reading ebooks. They are banking on the fact that people have multiple devices in today's world, a lap top for every day work tasks, an ebook reader for reading digital novels, etc...

The Kindle 3 has a clear advantage with some of it's features like battery life, 3G capabilities, international service, and lower price. But the Nook Color will prove to be a formidable foe this holiday season and beyond as a hot new electronic device.
